Akhmad Hanan is a researcher at Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) in Jakarta. At PYC, he coordinates research on energy law and geopolitics. He has conducted various studies related to energy issues, including maritime infrastructure, solar home system feasibility, and assessments of off-grid electrification. He also studies defence and security policies in Indonesia. He earned his Bachelor degree in oceanography at Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) and also holds a masters degree in energy security from Universitas Pertahanan (UNHAN) (Indonesian Defence University).
